Me and my pop art paintings were at the Dog Lovers Show this May. This was the first time my artwork was on display and I had a blast! This is Melbournes greatest festival for dog lovers where over 500 dogs, heaps of pet supplies brands, breed clubs, rescue groups and thousands of dog people come together for a three day exhibition of all things pups! We were upstairs just around the corner from the rescue pups.
Here’s a day by day account of my adventures at the show.
Setting Up
My heart and soul up on a 3m x 2.4m wall. All set up and ready to delight the dog lovers of Melbourne with my colourful puppies! Stoked with how it looks! It’s exactly what I had pictured in my head. I pretty much set out to create a wall of colours and dogs, I think I hit the brief.
The event organiser told me that their ticket pre sales were up by 33% which if I do the math.. there could very well be 50,000 people come through the exhibition over the three days! Yikes! Come upstairs to say hi if you are coming along to the show today.
My display is right next to all the dog rescue groups so it’s going to be very hard to resist getting a friend for Finn and Budd, I do hope we get lots of rescue puppy visits though.
Also check the photo tags to see all the wonderful instagram dogs that are in my display, I adored creating a beautiful artwork of each and every one of you. Here’s hoping I get lots of bookings so I can keep making your day brighter with lots more fun pop art puppies.
Dog Lovers Show Day 1
First day of the show was amazing! My highlight of the day was seeing people stop in their tracks and smile as they discovered my pop art puppies. It feels so good to make people happy with my bright and colourful portraits. We are in the best position upstairs above the main stage with an excellent view of the show. And right in the thoroughfare to the adoption zone so there was a parade of puppies going past all day!
Not really knowing what to expect I was quite nervous at the start of the day, as people started to make their way upstairs to my art. But I didn’t have to be nervous, I’m so humbled by all the compliments of my art and interest in all the dogs in my display.
One lovely lady even took a selfie with @abbythebosti she loved the painting so much! Insta pooches Sumo and Cocopops from @operation_sumo stopped by to say hello and many more pups and pet lovers came by to chat.
There will be some lucky mums who will be getting one of my dog mum cards next Sunday too. Bring on day 2!
Dog Lovers Show Day 2
We’ll, they said the weekend would be busy and they were right! Epic second day at the dog lovers show to kick off the weekend. Many more dog lovers of Melbourne discovered my stand upstairs and the smiles kept coming when people saw my pop art puppies.
Thank you so much to those who booked in a pet portrait at the show. I now have the pleasure to paint a chow chow, two german shepherds, a jack russell, a terrier cross and a kelpie!
Had some great helpers on day 2, my sister Elle dropped in for the morning – she is also a talented artists too. And our special guest, my friend Rach came in for the day too, she’s the mother of @rogueandbowie and with little Rogue the staffy’s painting hanging up in my gallery display, she was perfect to give a first hand experience of what it’s like to commission one of my pet portraits. I am very grateful for my lovely helpers. Thank you!
We had some other guests drop by as well. I had the pleasure of meeting the handsome Cookie Monster from @cmthegroodle and his mum, Maggie the pug and her mum @jesssicad dropped by and I got to meet @sarahlaurencarlee who is the mum of Delta the greyhound, a pup who I have painted her pop art portrait. Delta’s artwork is in my folio at the stand and has delighted many hound parents.
Last day of the show, I can’t believe how quickly it has passed by, but I have enjoyed every minute so far, I’m sure today will be another busy one. I can’t wait!
Dog Lovers Show Day 3
On the last day of the show all I can say is thank you. Thank you so much to those who booked in a pet portrait, thank you to my new friends who discovered my art for the first time, thank you to those who knew of my art and came up to say hi, thank you to everyone who stopped and smiled, thank you to my husband, my sister, my friend Rach and my mum and dad for helping me on the display, thank you Dog Lovers Show for putting on such a wonderful event and most of all thank you everyone for supporting me through this experience.
Today I booked in many more pets who I’m so excited to create as a beautiful artwork of. I will have the pleasure of painting a Chihuahua cross, two Pomeranians, a German Spitz, a Greyhound, a Mastiff Great Dane, a Japanese Spitz and a Corgi.
There were crowds already at the doors waiting for the show to start, apparently Saturday was the biggest day the show has had yet and today was just as busy. It still is so humbling to see the smiles and exclamations of joy as I watch people see my art on display, it inspires me to keep doing what I love and sharing with you all my colourful artworks.
I made heaps of new friends today including @davethebeagle who stopped by with his mum in search for BBQ chicken, but he only found pop art puppy art! @frankieandvelvetloveand @maximus.chai.staffy dropped by for a chat, and I had the cutest little puppy greyhounds Tulip and Wednesday come over with @greyhoundrescuevic for cuddles. It took all my willpower not to bring home a little sister for Finn and Budd.
Then the day was done and time to pack up the pop art pups and head home. The Dog Lovers Show was just an incredible weekend, thank you for coming along for the ride, I’ll for sure be back next year!!
